ActiMot2 System

Spontaneous locomotor activity in the home cage can be measured using infrared light-beam. Alternatively, the InfraMot infrared heat sensor attached to the cage lid can be used for activity monitoring. With the light-beam frames various parameters of the locomotor activity of the animals are determined. Beam breaks are divided into ambulatory and fine movements; a refractory period can be defined to avoid scratching or tail flipping being counted. The user can specify a center and a peripheral cage area comparable to an open field; data are displayed accordingly.

  • Infrared light-beam frames surrounding the home cage measure activity in three dimensions (X-Y-Z axis)
  • Different frame sizes and spatial resolutions, high timing resolution
  • Universal use of one frame size for mice and rats in combination
  • No calibration is necessary when using the light-beam frames
  • The sensor status is changed by the movement of the animal. Permanently interrupted light beams are ignored
  • Light-beam frames can be used alternatively with all open home cages and with calorimetry CaloCages or Metabolic Cages.
