Cognition

Cognition is the scientific term for "the process of thought." Cognitive processes can be natural or artificial, conscious or unconscious and be based on genetic and epigenetic mechanisms. These processes are analyzed from different perspectives within different contexts, notably in the fields of anesthesia, neurology, psychology, philosophy and anthropology. Cognitive abilities as the informed and deliberated response to external cues in order to fulfill a specific task are generally attributed to higher species.
